Halloween week starting tomorrow!
Halloween is in just one week from now, and to celebrate that, we’ll be posting five — count ‘em, FIVE — Halloween stories this week. All of them are short. Some of them are a bit spooky. One is mildly amusing. But all of them are Halloween-themed in some way.
We hope you enjoy!
And if you want any more reading material for Halloween, please check out our Anthology page, which features spooky stories in the style of the House of Mystery and the House of Secrets.… Continue Reading…

Earth-1 reading order guide
Yay! Finally! *applause*
It was a long time coming, but the Five Earths Project finally has a chronological reading order list for Earth-1. You can see these in the dropdown menu when you hover your mouse over Earth-1 in the navigation above, but I’ll provide the links below just in case. All the Earth-1 stories we’ve ever published are listed here except for the Times Past stories, which will be up soon. (Edit: Times Past now available!)
If you’re anything like me, you have a lot of reading to catch up on!
- Times Past
- 1985 (last half)
- 1986 (first half)
- 1986 (last half)
- 1987 (first half)
- 1987 (last half)
- 1988
- Future Tales
For those of you who don’t know, our fanfic tightly follows DC Comics’ continuity from the 1930s to the mid-1980s (thus explaining why we’re writing stories set 25 years ago), up to the end of the Crisis on Infinite … Continue Reading…

Happy Independence Day!
Happy Independence Day to everyone celebrating July 4th this weekend! And a happy Canada Day and a happy Bastille Day to our Canadian and French friends!
In the coming weeks and months, you can expect to see a whole lot of Earth-1 stories featuring such characters as the Flash, Batman, the New Titans, and the Justice League of America, as well as several more obscure characters.
Meanwhile, you can take a peek at our already archived stories at the Story Updates page. All the stories on this page will eventually be sorted into various categories by character, but for now, it’s the best place to find most of our stories.… Continue Reading…

Welcome to the Five Earths Project
At the end of the Crisis on Infinite Earths, the last remaining universes were merged into one and became the current DC Comics Universe. But what if those five Earths were separated after the Crisis and continued on independent of each other? These stories explore what they’d be like.
The time is not long after the Crisis, except that in this continuity the last five universes, having briefly merged during the Crisis, have separated once more. The only parallel Earths to have survived the destruction of the Multiverse are Earths One, Two, X, S, and Four. One exception is Earth-Three, which was absorbed intact by the antimatter universe of Qward, where it now exists. And the humor-based cartoon worlds of Earths C and 12 are actually otherdimensional realms where the laws of comedy (rather than physics) apply.
If you wish to write a story for the Project, please check … Continue Reading…

Happy Father’s Day from the Batman Family
June is Batman month here at the Five Earths Project, and to celebrate, we’ll be posting Earth-2 Batman stories all month! Last week, we published a loose collection of vignettes we titled Batman: Times Past: Sketches of the Caped Crusader, and this week and in the weeks to come you can expect the following stories:
- Batman Family: The Wedding March, by Starsky Hutch 76, Immortalwildcat, Bejammin2000, Drivtaan, Philip-Todd Franklin, Dan Swanson, Blackwolf247 and Dave Barnowski — the story of the wedding event of the season between Red Robin (the grown-up Dick Grayson, former Robin the Boy Wonder) and Power Girl (Superman’s cousin), in which skeletons in the closet are brought to light…
- Batman Family: Thanksgiving, 1969, by Dave Barnowski — two stories in one, featuring the gathering of the current Batman Family as well as the gathering of the Batman Family of 1969…

Have a Happy Mother’s Day
Today isn’t actually Mother’s Day yet, but it is May 1st, and that means a monthly theme image. This month’s image is of Queen Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons and arguably the greatest mother in comics. As the mother of Earth-1′s Wonder Woman (Princess Diana), Queen Hippolyta was responsible for many, if not most, of the major events of Wonder Woman’s life.
Queen Hippolyta took both the Amazons and their magic away with her to another dimension in the mid-1960s, leaving Wonder Woman without super-powers — just after the death of her love Steve Trevor, WW simply called herself Diana Prince at this time, ditching the glasses and donning a series of fashionable outfits while having adventures where she used her formidable martial arts prowess taught to her by an old man named I-Ching.
The good queen of the Amazons later resurrected Steve Trevor, who now had brown hair and … Continue Reading…

Europe gets a few new heroes in The Paragons: Deus Ex Astra
What do you do with a whole bunch of stories and story fragments that don’t fit into the continuity of the fictional world you’ve created? Why, you string all of them together into one massive story that eventually dovetails into a coherent ending, of course!
At least that’s what I did when trying to find a way to use much of the fiction written for the Earth-4 Starting Over group in its early days that were no longer within continuity. Much of this story was written as fragments of other stories ten years ago, around 2000 to 2001. I’ve rewritten all of these story fragments as well as written a lot of new content to create a story that is loosely tied together in its first half.
Deus Ex Astra, Book 1 deals with the debut of several new European action-heroes, and Book 2 (not yet published anywhere) will show … Continue Reading…

What in the world is Bizarro Fiction?!?
The other day I stumbled upon a fictional genre that was entirely new to me: Bizarro Fiction. I was captivated by the name alone. Obviously, as a comics fan I knew this genre was named after Bizarro from the comics, Superman’s imperfect duplicate. But while Bizarro Fiction’s name may have been inspired by the eponymous DC Comics character, the genre’s roots are far different.
Bizarro Fiction is just plain weird. It’s basically the literary form of a David Lynch or Tim Burton film, according to Horror World. It’s usually provocative, and often offensive, and defies logic. It’s like outsider art. The fictional worlds found within can be as crazy as Wackyland or as mundane as an ordinary melodrama, but with one key element bizarrely out of place.
Having just heard of this genre, I’ve never actually read any official Bizarro Fiction just yet, but my mind is still brimming … Continue Reading…

April at the Five Earths Project
If you happened to drop by yesterday, you may have noticed a few changes. For those of you who missed it, here’s a screenshot of how the site looked. It was our own little April Fools’ Day joke.

For the month of April, we’ve decided to celebrate our own “fools” in the DC Universe by spotlighting the Inferior Five (of Earth-12) and the Legion of Substitute Heroes (of Earth-1‘s 30th century). The image comes from last year’s The Brave and the Bold #35.… Continue Reading…

Brand New Look for the Five Earths Project!
After months of testing out various possible themes for the Five Earths Project website, we’ve finally settled on one that really suits us best.
We’d also like to announce that we’ll be adding a few new categories, which we hope will appeal to all you young folks out there:
Twilight Fan Fiction
Quick question: Team Edward or Team Jacob? If you love Bella, Edward, Jacob, and the crazy hi-jinx of all the rest of that wacky Twilight gang, you’ll love what we’ve got in store when they cross over with the DC Universe, and the Cullens join the JSA!
Glee Fan Fiction
You love the hit musical TV show, and you’ll love the fanfic about it, especially the special issue of the Brave and the Bold starring Batman and the the cast of Glee, singing, “Am I Blue?”
Justin Bieber Fan Fiction
Baby, baby, baby, ohhh… if you’ve got Bieber Fever, … Continue Reading…
